Unfortunately I have had too many "opportunities" for a lack of better words, in dealing with the school cooperation and IEP's and 504's and fighting for the rights of them for my own kids and now my grandboys.
I have learned these laws inside and out as I have become their biggest advocate and it has made me take pause and wonder how many other parents, grandparents, guardians, or caretakers of any kind just don't know their rights or just think what the school says is what is supposed to be so they take it for what it is and move on without knowing the facts. My grandson would be out of school until December, three and a half months, as a seven year old first grader had I not have fought for his rights.
As I do not condone bad behavior, I do demand any school to follow the laws, conduct investigations, have due process hearings before just removing any student on the "likelihood" of anything happening, yes that is what they tried to do, and get to the root of WHY the behavior is going on along with the parent and their therapist also doing their part also. Not just expel them or make them stay home and have these at home instructional services for 45 days for kids with disabilities including emotional disabilities.
